Sasa Kalajdzic of Stuttgart is apparently being courted by Wolves, which could improve Arsenal’s chances of acquiring their top target, Pedro Neto.

In order to replace the unpopular Nicholas Pepe, it was revealed on Monday that Arsenal was interested in signing Wolves winger Neto. However, the transfer will be challenging to execute because the Molineux-based club wants more than $50 million for the 22-year-old.

Another issue is that there isn’t much time left to find a successor because the transfer window expires in just over a week. Bruno Lage will thus probably be reluctant to move one of his team’s best players.

However, the Gunners may be in luck in that aspect as Sky Sports reports that Wolves and Stuttgart’s Matej Kalajdzic are close to signing a contract, despite some ongoing negotiations over the transfer fee between the Premier League and Bundesliga clubs.

The 25-year-old, who only has one year left on his contract, has received a 15 million pound offer from Wolves, but Stuttgart is holding out for about 21 million.

In 51 appearances in Germany’s top division, Kalajdzic has scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists. He may have scored more last season if he hadn’t missed half of the season due to a shoulder injury.

The 6’7″ Austrian international has been compared to former striker Peter Crouch in terms of build and style of play, and he is apparently interested in joining the Premier League.

Kalajdzic was also one of the strikers Manchester United considered this summer, but they decided against it after Antony Martial’s preseason comeback.

Wolves might be more willing to sell Neto if they acquire him, though doing so would still be dangerous considering their shaky start to the year.

Having lost at Leeds and Tottenham and drawn at home against Fulham while scoring just one goal, Lages’ club is currently ranked 17th in the standings.
