Maggie Rogers made an appearance on The Tonight Show for the Want Want live television premiere. The singer, who was performing with her band, gave a passionate interpretation of the song, which is about giving in to your impulses.
Want Want is a song from Rogers’ upcoming album Surrender, which will be released on July 29 by Capitol Records. After a protracted period of traveling in support of her debut album, which earned the singer a Grammy award for Best New Artist, Rogers began work on Surrender. Rogers moved to the coast of Maine during the epidemic, isolating herself from the outer world so she could create the songs for Surrenders 12.
Surrender was finally recorded in three distinctive locations: her parents’ garage, Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios near Bath, England, and the Electric Lady Studios in New York City, which were both co-produced by Rogers and Kid Harpoon.
In Rolling Stone’s Musicians on Musicians issue from 2020, Rogers said, “I had always done most of my music myself. My record featured some incredibly amazing co-producers, but it also had a speed-dating vibe to it that was stressful, occasionally empowering, and other times demeaning. Additionally, it was a very odd emotional dance. At this point, I actually miss working alone as I did in high school and college.
At the Latitude Festival in the UK earlier this month, Rogers performed I Know the End alongside Phoebe Bridgers and Rina Sawayama. In 2020, Bridgers and Rogers collaborated on a cover of the Goo Goo Dolls song “Iris,” which they hinted they would do if Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump.
