In a 1-0 friendly defeat to Spanish team Atletico Madrid in a game played in Norway, Manchester United offered a preview of the possible starting lineup for the Premier League debut the following week.

Before the start of the competitive league calendar against Brighton a week later at Old Trafford, new manager Erik ten Hag has set one final preseason test for his players on Sunday. On July 31, Rayo Vallecano, another Spanish team, will be the opponent, and Cristiano Ronaldo is anticipated to play his first minutes in that game.

Three minutes from the end, Joao Felix scored the game-winning goal in Oslo, but it was a harsh outcome for a positive United team that had produced a few chances. The Felix missile was shielded by his teammate who was covering the action, but Man United goalkeeper David De Gea, who had been trouble-free for the majority of the game, was powerless to stop it.

new United acquisition Lisandro Martinez did not play a single minute, but Christian Eriksen made his Manchester United debut off the bench after taking part in a secret practice match against Wrexham earlier in the week. His ability was instantly apparent as he assisted in the creation of two opportunities shortly after entering the game.

Man United put forth effort throughout the game to win the ball back, and they stood their ground in the face of Atletico Madrid’s harsh play. Harry Maguire was dangerous on a few corner kicks, Anthony Elanga and Marcus Rashford both had shots at goal, and Facundo Pellistri even had a late attempt that was stopped. The only drawback for United was the probable ban against Brighton and the straight red card shown to Fred for stomping on Alvaro Morata in the closing minute.

In this game, Ten Hag pushed his men for longer periods of time and only used four substitutions, the first of which came in the 70th minute. Atletico made ten substitutions at the 60-minute mark, including Felix, who scored the game-winning goal.

Anthony Elanga said to MUTV following the game, “It was a tough game, tough opposition. I feel like we’ve worked incredibly hard over this preseason and have gotten into the style of play the manager wants us to play, so it’s unfortunate that we lost the game.

CHRISTIAN Eriksen should start against Brighton. Eriksen and whether he should be in the starting lineup from the get-go against Brighton will likely be the topics of the most interesting discussions considering the significance of his substitution in the Atletico Madrid encounter. His ideas, vision, and clarity of mind gave the United attack a boost.

Together with Donny van de Beek, the Dane played in a double No. 8 center midfield position in front of Fred, who sat deeper as holding midfielder. Eriksen mostly floated into the left channel, and both Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire had header opportunities as a result of his precise throws (on a corner kick). If things don’t go well against Brighton, the boost he can provide the team as a substitute can make him more important off the bench.

A REVIVAL OF HARRY MAGUIRE’S CAREER UNDER TEN HAG? Under Ten Hag, Maguire appears to be a different player, and the switch from left center-back to right central defense (where he normally played previous season) has undoubtedly benefited him. Giving him the captain’s hat could only have been beneficial.

When playing the position against Atletico Madrid, he displayed the timing and presence he was known for before last season’s nightmare, making two crucial defensive plays in his own box.

He stomps on Alvaro Morata after kicking him from behind. He is given a clear-cut red card. James Garner replaces Facundo Pellistri in the interim.

87th minute: Atletico scores! Joao Felix fires a shot past De Gea from the top of the box. Diogo Dalot, the right back for Man United, attempted to block the shot but was unsuccessful, allowing Atletico to take the lead.

(@ProximaJornada1) Prxima Jornada 83rd minute of July 30, 2022 : Facundo Pellistri has a chance! After a Marcus Rashford shot, he pounced, but his attempt was stopped. That looked good.

75th minute: Christian Eriksen’s presence on the field has already made a difference. Harry Maguire narrowly misses a stunning corner kick that he delivers. Facundo Pellistri replaces Anthony Elanga wide right in the meanwhile.

Immediately after Christian Eriksen played a magnificent pass into the area for Rashford in the 73rd minute, Rodrigo De Paul’s volley was blocked by David De Gea of Manchester United. With around 15 minutes left, the game has become more exciting.

Man United makes a substitution in the 69th minute. Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay will be replaced by Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek. In addition to Rashford becoming the new center forward, Eriksen and Van de Beek are seated in front of Fred. Bruno Fernandes is now the wide left.

United States: Manchester (@ManUtd) July 30, 2022 68th min. Wow, Atletico has a chance! Saul made a move into the area after receiving a cross from Joao Felix on the left. But from just outside the six-yard box, the ex-Chelsea player shoots it extremely high.

Man United now faces a challenge in the 67th minute. It’s clear that the Red Devils’ heavy legs are showing because Atletico are young. Ten Hag introducing the substitutes.

In the 60th minute, Atletico makes ten substitutions, keeping only Reinildo:

lineup for Atletico Madrid (3-4-3, from right to left): 1-Ivo Grbic Daniel Wass, 24, Twenty-Axel Witsel, 23-Reinildo Sergei Diez, 5 Rodriguez de Paul 6-Koke, Saul Niguez (#17) Antoine Griezmann, No. 8, Alvaro Morata (19), Joao Felix (7)

54th minute: Following that excellent defensive performance, Maguire receives a yellow card for shoving Geoffrey Kondogbia in an obvious bear hug in an effort to stop a break. It was a clever error.

Fantastic play by Harry Maguire in the 51st minute. How often have we stated it over the past 12 months? After a protracted cutting run by the Atletico forward, he stops Matheus Cunha’s shot. The United captain has so far displayed strong performance and, more importantly, a confident demeanor.

Atletico Madrid’s best attacking move of the game came in the 47th minute when Thomas Lemar was set up by Angel Correa, but David de Gea intercepted the ball the entire way.

Atletico Madrid begins the second half in the 46th minute. There are no obvious modifications on either side.

MANCHESTER UNITED 0; ATLETICO MADRID 0 at the half. Half-time: Even if it wasn’t the most entertaining, Manchester United played a good first half (five yellow cards between both teams). It was a combination of the Red Devils’ overall passion and tenacity, superb attacking combinations, and deft defensive play in their own half. Erik ten Hag will be pleased with those 45 minutes against a ragged Atletico team that has been vying for every ball but hasn’t really threatened David de Gea of Manchester United.

45th minute: Good move by Manchester United. Marcus Rashford finds Anthony Elanga in the area after some good line-to-line passing, but Elanga’s effort is easily blocked. Earlier, following some wonderful left-side combination play with Bruno Fernandes, Rashford managed to have a chance on goal of his own. Nice way for United to end this half.

This opportunity for @AnthonyElanga was created by clever build-up play, but Oblak made a strong save late in the first half. #MUFC

United States: Manchester (@ManUtd) 39th minute of July 30, 2022 There is now a fight between the teams! The Atletico players reacted angrily when goalkeeper Jan Oblak was struck by Scott McTominay with his body. Yannick Carrasco and Geoffrey Kondogbia are particularly angry. Both McTominay and Oblak receive yellow cards, and the goalkeeper was given one for kicking out. The first half’s total is five yellow cards.

Drawing expert Drawty July 30, 2022 36th min.: Fighting physically has been expected when playing Atletico Madrid. After stopping Anthony Elanga on the right flank, Reinildo receives his third caution of the game. The recent minutes have seen an exciting tussle there.

28th minute: There are no longer any chances. However, Fred was given another warning for tugging on Angel Correa’s shirt in the United half. This is a severe booking.

26th minute: After an Atletico Madrid’s Geoffrey Kondogbia received a set piece in front of Manchester United’s goal, Victor Lindelof made an outstanding defensive play in his own penalty area. That move prevented a goal.

23rd minute: Recently, neither team has been able to gain the upper hand. Anthony Elanga, who was on the break, was fouled by Thomas Lemar, who was given a yellow card.

10th minute: Martial does well to control a long ball over the top for United after back-to-back corners, but Reinildo recovers to take the ball off Martial’s feet in the area. Early on, the Frenchman seems interested.

Fourth minute: Anthony Martial now has an opportunity! He ought to have handled that better. Martial is given a clear shot at goal when J.M. Gimenez makes a mistake with the ball, but he misses the target while a defender is on his back.

Man United scores with a shot in the third minute. Marcus Rashford dances around Savic before shooting at the near post, but goalkeeper Jan Oblak is there to stop it as they finally break the Atletico rush down the left.

Twitter user Rich Fay pic.twitter.com/S2gCvRxBmn 4 Erik ten Hag tells MUTV that Jadon Sancho is out after becoming ill overnight with 45 minutes till kickoff. Here are some additional comments he made regarding the forthcoming match and his strategy for using Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez.

We want the players to build up their leg strength through playing time. And you want to watch how well the team does. This is an excellent test because the opposition is challenging. Atletico Madrid are challenging to play against. I’m interested to see the results of this test.

Because it is what you want when you join the league, the majority of “players” must play the full 90 minutes. This is the reason for these two games, including the one on Sunday against Rayo Vallecano.

On minutes for Eriksen and Martinez, we’ll see. I’ll watch how the game plays out. We want as many players as we can with 90 players in their legs, as I have stated. For 90 minutes, Martinez and Eriksen are not prepared. They need to be created. They need to improve their physical fitness. They will undoubtedly receive game time today, tomorrow, or both days.

75 minutes remain until the game’s start. Oslo’s temperature is reportedly in the low 20s Celsius (low 70s F).
