The first wave of acts for this year’s Centenary Switch-On will be on Friday August 31st.

The X-Factor winning girl-band is just one of a string of great acts to be performing at this year’s event. Also taking to the stage on the night will be Lemar, Amy MacDonald and Lawson.

More top name performers will be announced in the coming weeks along with the eagerly anticipated name of just who will be doing the all-important Big Switch On!

Little Mix became the first band to win The X-Factor when they scooped the top prize last year. Their first single Cannonball stormed to the top of the UK charts and their next single Wings is due to be released in August. A debut album is expected later in the year.

Little Mix said: “It’s so exciting to be asked to be part of the huge Blackpool Illuminations 2012. We’ve been recording all year but we love performing live and it’s sure to be an amazing show!”

Joining Little Mix on stage will be Scottish recording artist Amy MacDonald. Amy’s received world-wide acclaim since hitting the music scene in 2007 and has recently released her third album Life in a Beautiful Light. Multi Brit Award and MOBO Award winner Lemar will also be performing. Lemar’s career spans a decade during which he has toured the world and had seven Top 10 hits including If There's Any Justice,  Dance (With U), The Way Love Goes and his new single Invincible.

And last but not least in this initial line-up announcement is up-and-coming boy-band Lawson. Lawson performed at The Tower Festival Headland just a few weeks ago when they supported The Wanted and McFly.

2012 marks 100 years of Blackpool Illuminations and the Switch-On is to be held on The Tower Festival Headland for the first time this year.

20,000 free tickets for Blackpool’s biggest night of the year will be allocated randomly with a maximum of 4 tickets per household with 50% being allocated to people within the Borough of Blackpool area.

Registration closes at 12noon on Wednesday 15 August and successful applicants will be notified by email on Tuesday 21st August.

Natalie Wyatt, Managing Director of Marketing Blackpool, said: “We are really excited to be making this initial announcement about the line-up of performers for this year’s Switch-On.

“Little Mix are enjoying fantastic success and I think the fact that we are revealing details of such a big name prior to announcing the official Switch-On star gives an idea of just how spectacular the Centenary event is going to be.

“It’s an exciting year for the Illuminations and once again we are delighted to be working with Real and Smooth on our biggest event of the year.”

Real and Smooth North West Managing Director, Michael McIntyre added: “Blackpool Illuminations are one of the world’s top tourist attractions and in this their centenary year we will see even more people looking forward to a great Switch-On party.

“Today’s announcement on our first wave of artists will have many applying for their tickets…..and we promise there are more great names to come! Everyone wants to know the name of our all-important Switch-On star; I’m delighted to say we will be announcing that in the next couple of weeks on Real and Smooth Radio.”
