All bets are off!

Paddy Power has paid out to punters who backed the LeapPad 2 as this year’s top selling Christmas toy.

Despite two weeks of frantic Christmas shopping ahead, the bookmaker is convinced that the tablet won’t be knocked off the topspot and has paid out to the tune of around £5,000.

With shops up and down the country struggling to meet demand and with one way traffic in the betting market, the tablet for toddlers has emerged as the top tech-savvy toy for 2012.

The LeapPad 2 has remained the favourite since the autumn and has held off strong challenges from Hasbro’s Furby and Lord of the Rings Lego.

A Paddy Power spokesperson said: “The bed-wetting anticipation of waking up on Christmas day to find a gleaming LeapPad 2 under the tree will be too much to take for some children this year.

"Whereas we know the bed-wetting anticipation of waiting to find out what the top selling toy is an equally painful experience for our punters, so we’ve decided to payout out early. The betting trend has shown one way traffic and plugged in punters seemed to have called it correct.”
